Art song (Lieder, mélodies and songs) (pages not yet complete) |
|
||
|
The American expression 'art song' usefully describes in English the genre called Lied (German) or mélodie (French). These pages are divided into two main sections:
The duets
link is primarily a listing, because I found it surprisingly difficult to
discover the existence of some of these songs, and to source a score.The solo voice pages are not, of course, comprehensive, but
rather, a few items which you might not find elsewhere.
In both links you will find texts and translations of some songs,
sound samples, and scores of
a few songs - for example, out of
copyright scores which are hard to obtain, or key transpositions which may be
unpublished or hard to get hold of.
I have excluded early music,
e.g. Purcell (but I have included Britten's
realisations of Purcell), arrangements for two voices (other than by the original
composer), parlour songs, operatic
arias, cantatas and other religious works.
